This was a significant day for eight seminarians from the Holy Infant Seminary as they made the solemn rite of wearing the cassock (sotana) in the presence of their family members and relatives who found time to participate in the Family Encounter held two days before this event. Most Rev. Ronald Lunas, DD, STL officiated this sacred rite of passage along with Rev. Fr. Michael Cabellon, Seminary Rector and Rev. Fr. Gilbert Longay, Seminary Vice Rector.
Bishop Bong gave an inspiring message and explained the meaning and significance of wearing the cassock which has three important parts corresponding to the three vows. First, the collar, which is a symbol of obedience for it is likened to a dog collar put on a pet dog so it would follow its master wherever it goes. Second, the cassock represents simplicity and poverty for it does not require them to worry about what to wear in their daily life. Third, the white belt reminds them of the value of celibacy and calls them to make a total dedication of their lives at the service of the Lord and His people, the Church.
The Diocese of Pagadian is blessed to have these brave young seminarians and we pray for their perseverance and dedication in their formative years in the Holy Infant Seminary. May the Lord give them and their loved ones the graces they need to carry on in their vocation to the priesthood! Our warmest Congratulations to the Discipleship Year 1 batch!
