Mindanao Week of Peace Short Film Festival

November 28, 2022. The Audio Visual Room of the St. Columban College was a buzzed with excited High School students who came to view their entries to the Short Film Festival from their respective schools. The event started at around 2:45 in the afternoon with the Opening Prayer, National Anthem and the Welcome Remarks by Dr. Janus A. Naparan. Ms. Sheila May Fiel acknowledged the participating schools and the board of judges namely: Mr. Rosebelt Lomocso (Director of Student Affairs of SCC), Hon. Junaflor “Sweet” Cerilles (Mayor of Dumalinao) and Sr. Marjorie Guingona, SAC (Interfaith Forum for Solidarity and Peace-Pagadian).

The following are the winners of the recently concluded Short Film Festival:

Best Director – St Columban College-SHS
Best Cinematography – Zamboanga del Sur National High School
Best Actress – Zamboanga del Sur National High School
Best Film – Zamboanga del Sur National High School
1st Placer: St. Columban College
2nd Placer: Zamboanga del Sur National High School

In her inspirational speech, Mayor Sweet Cerilles highlighted the importance of peace whereby she expressed it in three points: 1) Unity in diversity 2) Peace coming from within 3) Love as the most universal expression that transcends religions, culture and whatever differences that divides us. Sr. Marjorie also expressed her gratitude and admiration for the creativity and hard work that the participating students exerted in the production of their short films about peace in the context of Mindanao, a shared territory among Muslims, Christians and Lumads.

The event ended with the giving of certificates and tokens to the judges and the awarding of the winning entries followed by the singing of the Harmony Song.

Gratitude to the Community Engagement and Services Offices headed by Ms. Shiela May Fiel and St. Columban College for warmly welcoming everyone specially the student participants and to the Interfaith Forum for Solidarity and Peace (IFSP) for organizing this event especially for our young students.
