The Roman Catholic

Sabado de Gloria

Just when the sun was about to set, Part 1 of the Easter Vigil began: The solemn ceremony of the Blessing of the Fire and Lighting of the Easter Candle. This was held outside the Sto. Niño Cathedral Church beneath the open sky. The faithful then made their way towards the Church entrance where the only light that could be seen was that of the Paschal Candle held aloft. Once inside the church, Rev. Fr. Michael Cabellon beautifully sang the Easter Proclamation- a proclamation that Jesus has risen and claimed victory over sin and death.

Part 2 was the Liturgy of the Word. There were seven Readings and Psalms from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament read aloud for all the people to hear. These Readings reflect God’s love for humankind and remind the faithful that throughout history, God is consistently there with us.

During his homily, Bishop Ronald I. Lunas,STL,DD emphasized how great God’s Love is for us. Sometimes we may question and ask God if He loves us, but the Cross is enough evidence. “There is no greater love than this; to lay down one’s life for his friends”.

Part 3 of the Easter Vigil: The Baptism, Confirmation and the First Communion of 15 new members of the Catholic Faith. This was also the first time that the newly constructed Baptismal Font was used. The congregation also renewed their Baptismal Promises after which they were sprinkled with the Holy Water.

Finally, Part 4 was the Liturgy of the Eucharist: The partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion.

The long celebration enkindled the fire of our faith that have been tried and tested during these difficult times of global pandemic. We are Easter people and we have been gifted with new life and the promise of salvation. In God alone do we find hope and the strength to carry on…
Alleluia, Alleluia! Jesus Christ is risen indeed!
